Matthew Metz, MD
Dr. Matthew Metz was recruited from the Cleveland Clinic, where he completed a Fellowship in Bariatric and Laparoscopic Surgery under the expert guidance of the world-renown ASMBS President, Dr. Philip Schauer. While in Cleveland, Dr. Metz performed over three hundred complex procedures, including revisional bariatric surgery, advanced endoscopy, and numerous foregut operations. He has published several papers in the medical literature, and is currently awaiting release of a review textbook on Bariatric Surgery, of which he is a co-author. He is an active member in several surgical societies, and has made presentations at national and international meetings on advanced laparoscopic and endoscopic techniques. His sensitivity and easy-going nature make him very approachable to his patients and their families. We are very fortunate to have Dr. Metz on our staff at the Colorado Bariatric Surgery Institute. |

Allison Van Fleet, FNP-C, MS, SA
Allison is a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner as well as a Masters prepared nutritionist. She has a variety of health care experience throughout the years including owning her own nutritional practice in Boulder, Colorado, nursing at St Joseph's Hospital, and working at two eating disorder clinics in Boston, Massachusetts and being a co-owner of a Nurse Practitioner run Women's Health Practice in Denver, Colorado. Allison assists Dr. Brown during bariatric surgery, helps evaluate patients preoperatively, follows patients postoperatively, and is the facilitator for CBSI's monthly support groups. Allison is also the Bariatric Coordinator for Presbyterian/ St Luke's Hospital. |

Sheri Suiter, M.S., P.A.-C
Sheri Suiter is a Certified Physician Assistant with a Masters of Science in Medicine. After completing her training in Michigan, she practiced with an Interventional Cardiology group at The Queens Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. During her five years in Hawaii, she also traveled to the outer island medical outreach clinics facilitating cardiac stress testing, nutrition education, and participating in the treatment of various cardiac conditions and metabolic syndromes. After relocating to Denver, Sheri joined the CBSI Center of Excellence where she assists Dr. Metz during general and bariatric surgery. She also evaluates and treats patients preoperatively and postoperatively in the CBSI clinic. |

Liz Rosenzweig, MSW, LCSW
Liz is a clinical social worker who comes to the CSBI team by way of Massachusetts, where she has been working in the field of outpatient mental health for the past eight years. Liz received her MSW from the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work and has worked with a variety of patient populations on problems including addiction, trauma, body image and poor self concept. Liz is responsible for psychological screening of patients considering gastric bypass or placement of a Lap-Band. She also provides post-operative support to ensure that patients make effective lifestyle changes, as well as helping patients and their loved-ones with the emotional aspects of weight-loss surgery. This is achieved through individual and family meetings as well as participation in CBSI's monthly support groups. |

Ken Grider, LCSW
Ken has experience working with adults, adolescents, and children for over 11 years. He has a background in mental health, the juvenile correctional system, and hospital clinical social work. Ken has had a private practice specializing in alternative therapies for the last 7 years.

Shannon Smiley, RD
Shannon is a registered dietitian who has joined the CBSI team after a 2-year stint in Germany working as a Wellness Counselor for pregnant and lactating women. Shannon graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition Science from Cal Poly State University in San Louis Obispo, California. She completed a year long dietetic internship at San Diego State University and since then has held numerous positions in both clinical settings and nutritional management. Shannon specializes in weight management counseling and nutrition education of pre- and post-operative patients undergoing gastric bypass or placement of a Lap-Band. Shannon also participates in our CBSI monthly support groups. |

Wendy Askelson, RD, CDE
Wendy is a Colorado native and CSU graduate who has been a practicing dietitian for 20 years. The majority of Wendy's focus has been on diabetes and weight loss and she holds certification in diabetes management and adult weight management. Often described as passionate about health, Wendy really enjoys helping people make the lifestyle changes associated with weight-loss surgery that will ultimately enhance their health.

Lindsey Strauss, RD
Lindsay is a Registered Dietitian who splits her time between counseling patients at CSBI and being a clinical dietitian at Presbyterian/St. Luke's. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and afterwards pursued her education in nutrition at the University of Northern Colorado. She works with CSBI patients in one-on-one and group settings to meet their weight loss goals pre- and post-operatively. |

Melinda Winters, MLT, ASCP
Melinda has had extensive experience as a medical technologist in private and independent medical laboratories. She is now the billing manager in this office and expertly handles all of the medical billing matters. |

Cheral Moore
Cheral is an experienced medical receptionist. At CBSI, Cheral fields phone calls and questions, pre certifies our patients for surgery, and does our clinic scheduling for pre- and post-op visits. She'll be the one at the front desk to help guide you through each visit. |

Amy Kerstiens, CMA
Amy is our Insurance and Benefits Coordinator. She joined our team earlier this year and will help you to schedule your appointments and figure out your insurance benefits for surgery. She will be one of the friendly voices you will when you call the office. |
